The bird market on the territory of the Sadovod shopping center with a total area of 9 thousand square meters is the largest in Russia. It consists of three specialized objects: Bird Market - includes the “Underwater World” shopping gallery, “Aquariums and Reptiles”, “Cats and Rodents”, “Ornamental Birds”, the “Dogs” pavilion; Fishing and hunting, including "Motors and Boats"; Pigeon paradise. Urban legend says that the name “Bird” market was given because of the tradition on April 7 - the feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary - to release birds, mainly pigeons, into the wild. It is believed that “Ptichka” began its history in the Okhotny Ryad area. In 1851, the market was moved to Trubnaya Square and at the same time permanent shopping arcades were built. In 1921, the Bird Market moved to the circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard and, partially, to Konnaya Square. Moscow was growing, so “Bird” was constantly moved to the outskirts of the city. In 1938, the market moved to the Taganskaya metro area on Kalitnikovskaya Street, and in 2001 - to the territory of the Sadovod shopping center.

Today, the Bird Market is a modern, comfortable pavilion with all the necessary equipment for keeping animals, storing and selling feed, toys and accessories, clothing and goods for outdoor activities and tourism.
